We handed out candy and glow sticks (necklaces, bracelets, and sticks) as party favors at our birthday camping celebration. After jumping around and performing shows for one another, a few of us stole away to take some radical pictures. Matt’s red headlamp helped us out a lot, too…

First, I set the camera on a tripod with the following settings:

shutter speed: 6 seconds

aperture: f/3.5

iso: 280

Then I helped direct my actors/artists: Matt’s red headlamp was the brightest, so he could move pretty fast. He knelt on the picnic bench and waved his arm in an arc for the sunset. The other three had little glow sticks, and they needed to move more slowly to show up in the pictures…

Ryan waved around a few green glow necklaces, but he went a little crazy and turned our palm tree into a pine tree. This is our one lake scene among lots of beach scenes. Heather L had a yellow glow stick that she moved up and down underneath Ryan’s green palm fronds to make the trunk(s)…

And Heather J was in charge of the water. It came out best when she used two fists full of blue and pink glow necklaces and moved them back and forth slowly in a horizontal line. Altogether, it made a whole scene…we thought it looked like a neon sign in Vegas?

My favorite is this picture where Matt and Tim turned Heather L into an angel….After many attempts with really creepy faces,  we finally got a few “normal” ones…

This one didn’t have the effect we anticipated. If you look closely you can see Heather hands holding the green orb and her face trapped inside.

Tim made the wings by attaching a purple and blue necklace for each side, and Matt made the halo by swinging around one of the glow sticks on it’s string. Heather’s face is lit up by a headlamp that was dimmed through my shirt and aimed directly at her face for about half a second.  :)

Here are some of the other fun things we made after discovering how well the red headlamp worked…
