Photographing Fireworks

Photographing Fireworks is pretty simple, as long as you have a good view and a steady tripod. We watched the fireworks from the pier in Long Beach with some friends who live a few minutes from the beach.

We found a good spot on the pier and set up our tripod before the fireworks got started. You can experiment with shutter speed to get different effects. With a longer shutter speed, you can capture multiple bursts of fireworks in one shot and capture more of the movement in the fireworks.

The settings for this photo:

*Focal Length: 62mm *Exposure (Shutter Speed): 1.3 seconds *Aperture: f/18 *Iso: 200

I loved how the water changed color with the fireworks.

The settings for this photo:

*Focal Length: 62mm *Exposure (Shutter Speed): 4 seconds *Aperture: f/18 *Iso: 200

I kinda wish I had a faster shutter speed for this one, so I could’ve captured the smiley face in its original shape. But, it is kinda funny now that it looks like an angry man with a moustache.

The settings for this photo:

*Focal Length: 70mm *Exposure (Shutter Speed): 4 seconds *Aperture: f/29 *Iso: 200

Those are some great shots, I wonder why I don’t remember any of the fireworks in Long Beach … we did live there for 4 years. I’ll have to make sure we get the camera out next year and try a few things out. This year it was pretty foggy here, would’ve been great shots of purple & pink fog and that’s about it.

I love the firework pics! I’m a huge fireworks fan anyways, but I love your skills.
