Wow, I (Tim) just experienced my first “big” earthquake. A 5.4 quake hit Los Angeles at 11:42 AM then a 3.8 about 9 minutes later. I was under a tent at the radar site, and when the tent started to shake I suspected my coworkers. Larry, Mo, and Curly are always trying to pull a fast one on me. So I peeked outside the tent , but there was no prankster to be found! Yet all the objects behind my tent: telephone poles, wires and lights, were eerily swaying from side to side as if some monstrous creature had just rumbled by. The little light bulb in my head finally turned on. First thing I did was call my wife Margaret. “Call Failed” … the Cingular network must be down. The only obvious thing to do next is to log on to Gmail’s Intant Messenger… And my wife, being one in mind, did the same. In black and white text she exclaimed “the apartment building felt like it was gonna crash on my head!” …. and … “our fruit holder was a-swingin’ and the furniture in the apt. above was hopping about. ” We were a little shaken up but OK. I think I am one experience closer to being able to call myself a “Californian”.

I never knew you hadn’t experienced an earthquake before. Shows how much I know…

Haha, well my reaction was based on the very loud noises coming from the apartment above me. It took a couple seconds for me to realize that it was actually an earthquake and not some crazy thing going on at my neighbors…

Are you guys feeling the aftershocks? We had a similar sized quake near us a couple months ago but no where near the same amount of aftershocks!
Here’s a list of them all:

he he he…. being a californian most of my life, I wasn’t really bothered too much. Glad you made it through. Tim: Chris my son (who sent me your site this morning) use to act like he was surfing a big wave when an earthquake would hit. Very fun read.

I meant to ask you about that quake. I knew it was in LA but didn’t know what part.
We actually felt on in Redding a few months ago. I was laying on the floor watching TV, and it felt like my back was being pushed up an down.
